Another fun project, I took this
old Lafever 20g. that would have been a beautiful upland bird gun had someone not blown an inch and a half section out of
the left barrel an inch in front of the forearm and converted it to a side by side 45-70 Gov. After installing the two barrels
into the breach block, milling out a solid steel muzzle block and soldering all the ribs, three leaf rear site and ramped
front site in place it was time to find out if my math was right. Upon firing the rifle at 25, 50 and 100 yards I was fortunate
to find out that all was well. At 25 yards with the lowest blade of the rear site we were level with the bulls eye, bullets
were approximately 2” apart. At 50 yards with the mid height blade the impact holes were level with the X, and 1½”
apart. At 100 yards with the highest blade we took out the X and the second hole was less than an inch away. Not bad for open
sites on any rifle. The target you see in the picture was fired by the owner of the rifle at 100 yards when he picked it up
at the shop. (Good shooting Dave
you make me look good.)
